Phases of Learning When we are learning a skill, we go through 3 phases of learning. Next time you are learning, think what phase you are at?
1) Cognitive Phase- during this phase you have to think about each step when completing the skill. For example, walking as a baby, you have to think about balance, which foot comes next etc. 2) Associative Phase- during this phase you are copying a perfect model on how the skill looks. For example, walking as a baby, you watch people around you and learn through copying them. 3) Autonomous Phase- during this phase you are able to complete the skill without thinking about it and it is performed naturally. For example, walking as a child, you know walk around school without even thinking about putting one foot in front of the other. Have a look at Year 4 learning in the associative phase where they are trying to copy the perfect model of the breast stroke kick:

International Exercise Challenge
The draw has been made for this months international exercise challenge. Pupils from year 3 - 6 have been chosen to do as many squats as they can in 2 minutes. Good Luck.
Today in PE Year Two Purple have been learning how to jump for distance. Along with learning, practicing and refining the techniques involved they began to measure fellow pupils distances. Phases of a warm up: 1) Pulse Raiser- to increase the Heart Rate, which increases the blood flow, which carries oxygen for muscles. 2) Mobility- to mobilise joints for improved movement. 3) Stretching- to prepare the muscles for exercise to prevent injury. How did you warm up in PE? What phases did you focus on? Can you design your own warm up for one or all of the phases? Watch this video on the phases of a warm up:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/standard/pe/the_body/training_and_effects/revision/1/ BSAK Junior Swim Squad took a break from the pool yesterday and started some land based strength and conditioning in our school gym. Children were put through their paces yesterday with a combination of strength and fitness work. This gives the children a break from the pool and gives them variation in their training but at the same time helping develop their aerobic fitness levels as well as developing stronger and more powerful swimmers. 24/01/2017
