Phases of Learning When we are learning a skill, we go through 3 phases of learning. Next time you are learning, think what phase you are at?
1) Cognitive Phase- during this phase you have to think about each step when completing the skill. For example, walking as a baby, you have to think about balance, which foot comes next etc. 2) Associative Phase- during this phase you are copying a perfect model on how the skill looks. For example, walking as a baby, you watch people around you and learn through copying them. 3) Autonomous Phase- during this phase you are able to complete the skill without thinking about it and it is performed naturally. For example, walking as a child, you know walk around school without even thinking about putting one foot in front of the other. Have a look at Year 4 learning in the associative phase where they are trying to copy the perfect model of the breast stroke kick:

Phases of a warm up: 1) Pulse Raiser- to increase the Heart Rate, which increases the blood flow, which carries oxygen for muscles. 2) Mobility- to mobilise joints for improved movement. 3) Stretching- to prepare the muscles for exercise to prevent injury. How did you warm up in PE? What phases did you focus on? Can you design your own warm up for one or all of the phases? Watch this video on the phases of a warm up:
